It takes a Village to raise....... Happy New Year ActiveRain !

Happy New Year Active Rain! Reflections on the passing year 2007...

This ancient African proverb teaches eternal truth. No man, woman, or family is an island. We'd all like to think we live in a place where people care about others -- where people pitch in to help when things get rough -- where it's safe to leave the doors unlocked and let the kids play around outside.

Nobody Is An Island

Sometimes when times get rough it may seems that we are alone all wrapped up in our own worries and hardship. It's pretty awful when you feel like you are all alone and the whole world is against you. Life is a lot easier when you are part of a network of friends and family, a community, a neighborhood.

2007 was a difficult year for the Real Estate Market across the entire country... Most of us were challenged on the professional level and forced to develop our survival skills in order to overcome the hardship. There are many stories of success and failure among us, lessons to learn and wisdom to gain.

Active Rain network came into our lives at the right time and right place. Just when we needed the most help!!! Real Estate community of people connected with each other during these difficult times. We found a family and friends around us. Everybody shared the experiences and personal thoughts on all levels, so everybody was in the same boat ... and that was very therapeutic and beneficial for all.

So people helped each other out. Not only on the professional level but also with the spiritual and emotional necessities.

Life is easier when you are part of a network of friends and family, a neighborhood.

It does take a village, to work with the family and weather the storms of life. If we want that kind of support, the place to begin is with ourselves. You start building a good neighborhood when you yourself decide that you will be a good neighbor. If you don't know anyone on your block, you can take the initiative and reach for others.

This is the story of Active Rain community! Here is where the strengths come from! That way is growing so fast and is here to stay for long time. Because is like no other network we've seen before... It not only a place to meet one an other, grow together and share our wisdom or professional experiences but it is  "our village of friends and survivors"

You start building a good neighborhood when you yourself decide that you will be a good neighbor.

I don't know exactly where, when or who brought to life Active Rain but whatever was it's been a blessing for our real estate community. Bringing us together and open the gates of a unique place where we feel home, taking care of, understood and loved by our community...

We have an obligation to keep our community strong, alive and successful for years to come. Be good neighbor. United we stand, divided we fall -- cooperation is as important as competition. Maybe, at certain times and places, it's more important.

It is great to be home!

No men is a failure who has friends!

The secret of their success...
After almost 1 year on Active Rain (97466 Points / Blog Posts:366), I decided to review my blogging practice pattern. In spite of continuous efforts to improve my writing skill and content of my posts, I did not get as many comments as I was expecting to get. I agonized over this issue as we all are looking for the validation of our pears. It is not about points it is about feeling listened to and acknowledged by others. In other words to fell among friends.

No men is a failure who has friends!
"What a wonderful Life"

Than I decided to take a hard look into Active Rain blogging activity across all spectrums to find the answer to my dilemma. Never had the time to go through 103 pages of 25 groups/each = 2575 groups ... and it was worth it!

  • I learned that some bloggers are here to advertise and generate personal business.
Among them some are large groups with considerable big blogging activity: Realtors (Members: 6086, Posts: 44279), The Art Of Marketing You (Subscribers: 3810 Blog Posts:12607), More Referrals! Tips & Strategies (Subscribers: 1665 Blog, Posts: 4205), Agents who want REFERRALS! (Subscribers: 511 Blog Posts: 919), Referrals Only (Subscribers: 465 Blog Posts: 573),
  • Others bloggers are here to exchange ideas, sometime professional some other time personal. To name only few...
From Professional: PART TIME AGENTS (Subscribers: 22 Blog Posts: 102), My other blog is (Subscribers: 183 Blog Posts: 534), The Lounge at Active Rain (Subscribers: 1119 Blog Posts: 8779), Bringing Businesses and Consumers Together

From: Real Estate Agent Web Design Tips (Subscribers: 290 Blog Posts: 269), Search Engine Optimization: An Hour a Day (Subscribers: 148 Blog Posts: 187), Gadgets, Tools, & Extras (Subscribers: 954 Blog Posts: 1824)

To: The Legal Credit Repair Community (Subscribers: 21 Blog Posts: 23),Home & Credit Savvy (Subscribers: 39 Blog Posts: 130),

  • And other bloggers simply:
Group about absolutely nothing (Subscribers: 57 Blog, Posts: 250), The Activerain Silver Star Hall of Fame

2575 groups! quite impressive... So, what am I doing wrong? First I have to start with choosing different groups than the ones had in the past. I have to get off the ones were my posts were not well received.

1. Choose posting to groups that relates directly to my topics. There are 2575 groups out there. In spite of them been small, some groups are more friendly than others. Chances to get comments on your post and connect to other bloggers is limited in the large groups setting.

In the ultimate instance, gaining popularity should be achieved in order to attract more readers and comments among other bloggers.

2. I'll go through my Comments (1032) and add some of them as Associates... A way to thank them, reach out and stimulate the dialog.

As for the potential customers that I am trying to attract to my blog and website promoting my listings or information's about Las Vegas Market Reports. (, )

3. I'll still use some of the mega groups : Realtors, Las Vegas, NV Area Real Estate Professionals, Activerain MLS Online, Las Vegas Investors and Downtown Real Estate, Millionaire Real Estate Investor Referral Network... to name only few. But I won't expect comments from Activerainers.

I don't know about you all out there but I can't spend all my time in front of the computers writing to exhaustion and be sucked in, by the addiction of blogging... I have to write smart, less and with better results. It is my resolution for the new year.

Somebody up there watches me...

ccd-insects12.jpg

Lately I feel that I've been watched closely... I received harsh anonymous comments (from knows who... and you know who you are) from some who keep tied eye on everything I post, to the very last detail. I am not a great blogger and I admit lacking the writing style that some exhibit here. But I am doing my best and try to be as creative as I can... after all I have my main job: "selling homes". Writing is not my forte and blogging takes a lot of time and energy. I can afford that!

I am puzzled to see how much time, some bloggers can afford to spend writing, commenting while runing, the extra miles, to get more and more points. Blogging is not even fun anymore when you get the filling that people become some kind of robots working exhaustedly... 10 comments/day; 10 posts/week; and the on and on. Blogging is a pastime for some, it becomes an obsession.

Concerned about someone stealing your ideas if you post them to a blog? Don't. Unless you decide otherwise, you have the copyright on a blog. And you have the precedence that comes with making those words public far earlier. The ideas are meant to circulate and people can share the interest for same subjects.

And I would add that there is not an intentional act of stilling... (we are not thief's). It is just an act of reinforcing a subject that represents a certain value. I came across many blogs on the net sharing the same subject (and even content) and was nothing wrong about it (in my humble view). One thing was that the subject presented caught my attention even more.
