Move over Barney... The new "First Puppy" is moving into White House!

A promise is a promise... even in the White House! The new elected president Barack Obama has promised to get a puppy for his girls if he is elected president.

The new White House puppy will follow in the paw-steps of a menagerie of animals that have come and go in the White house. Now "Sasha and Malia," Obama are in the search for their four legged friend. Can anyone guess what dog breed would be the best for Obamas?

What kind of dog? Purebred or mutt? From a shelter or breeder? Puppy or adult? Are the girls going to pick their favorite one? Who will walk the dog?... What will be the choice of name?

There is a lot of buzz on the Internet and over the blogging net about what kind of dog the girls should get but not surprisingly Obamas say that is is imperative that they adopt the dog from an animal shelter or rescue group. Which is so awesome!

So it seems as for the first time in the White House the "first puppy" would be a lovely, ordinary, most probably a breed less dog but none the less a very anticipated pet friend by the two little girls. They only wanna have fun!!!

It is "first time" for everything in the White House!

Arina, purebred or mutt, as long as it is a happy dog that brings lots of smiles to the kids.

How precious those two little ones are!!!  I'm so excited for them - they are in for such a life experience aren't they?  And the puppy will just bring more joy...

Here's a pic our our Barney - when he was about  3 months old...

Arina - I think any creature belonging to that loving family will feel special. Just imagine being that lucky "first dog"!

Arina- I like Border Collies. They are so smart and very loyal. Not too large and not too small. I think any Border Collie would love to live in the Casa Blanca.

Arina, They are probably going for one of the poodle mixes since Malia has a dog allergy. Poodles are the safest~

Gary, Dogs are the fresh breath of life... brings smile, joy and happiness to everyone specially to kids. Sasha and Malia were lucky to have their dad lected president.

Lee & Pamela, I used to grow up with a little sweetheart just like your Barney.

Morgan, The entire event is like a movie in the making... -:)

Bo, Thank you for your comment. I like to take a pick behind the veils of politics.

Carol, The "first dog" doesn't even know where he is or who his master is... He just love to be with them. Lucky indeed.

Lori , Love them too... beautiful creatures.

Ginger & Roger, Indeed is going to be a careful search for the right one. Malia's allergy will limit the choices but I am sure they will pick the right one.

I heard on the new his kids have allergies and it will have to be a "hypo-allergenic" dog.  I'm thinking they won't be getting it from the shelter. This one would be good:  Peruvian Hairless Dog

Hi,

I vote they get a English bulldog. Go to my active rain site and look at my Bruno. How can you say NO to that face!! They also are laid back and stand for strength.

Here is my Sunset I rescued her 12 years ago...

Not a purebred but gorgeous,  pure gold and best friend. Very cool dog I won't change her for anything in the world.

I wish the Obamas a lot of luck with adoption-it's a nearly impossible process.  Does the White House have a fenced in yard?

Brenda, Thank you for coming by...

It would be easy for Obama's if they will let them go and pick one, just as they like, from a shelter. To much is going on around and to many want to grab their attention.

Let's the girls choose the one they love... In the end it's between them and their beloved pet.

I found Sunset (here attached) in the street - a small scared puppy - and look how gorgeous she turned out to be.
