- ERA Real Estate recently asked more than 1,000 adults over age of 50 what they are looking for in housing as they get closet to retirement'. Single-family houses are tops. Of those considering moving in five years, 65 percent would consider a single-family house.
Of those who own single-family houses, only 11 percent would consider a condo, townhouse or apartment.
Active-adult communities are becoming more attractive. Six percent of responders said they are considering one, compared with 2 percent last year. Men are three times as likely to consider moving to one as women.
Designer kitchen and outdoor deck/entertainment areas are the most desired luxury enhancement respondents want in their home (76 and 75 percent, respectively)
Others dream extras would include pristine landscapes (71 percent), indoor sauna or hut tubs (53 percent) and home theatres (46 percent)
Only 13 percent want a golf course.

We tried the condo bit when my husband retired and hated it...we live in a townhouse now and it works great! I don't think I'd ever want to live in an 'active adult community' because I like the sound of kids playing. Besides IF we ever have grandchildren we'd want the option of raising them if that ever became necessary...'active adult communities' don't allow that option.
Good blog Arina! Food for thought!
Mary: I know what you mean... When I looked into that I had in my mind my parents and thought that there is a large segment of population we should think about.
