Green Wonders of the World

In my college years I used to learn about the 7 Wonders of the World. Where the most outstanding Architectural constructions of the ancient civilizations...Today we learn about the Green Wonders of the World, environmentally conscious buildings.Proving that going green can inspire great architecture

Ten years ago, the large-scale green building was still a pipe dream. Most of the designs were the architectural versions of horsehair shirts, neither very comfortable nor very pretty. Using less energy meant making do with less-less heating, less cooling, and moreover, less of the symbolism and grandeur that defines great architecture.

Here below you can visit a Worldwide collection of 10 most celebrated Architectural Green Buildings.

  1. Reichstag, New German Parliament, Berlin (1999)
  2. Menara Mesiniaga/IBM Tower, Kuala Lumpur (1992)
  3. J.M. Tjibaou Cultural Centre, New Caledonia (1998)
  4. Ford Dearborn Truck Assembly Plant, Michigan (2004)
  5. Colorado Court, Santa Monica (2002)
  6. BedZED, London (2002)
  7. Arcosanti, Arizona
  8. 30 St Mary Axe, London (2004)
  9. The City of Chicago
  10. San Francisco Federal Building (2006)

You only have to look at historic homes to find out they are very green. The lessons to be learned may be in the past. Most people could walk to work or ride a street car.

The National Association of Realtors(r)  has a Green Building in Washington DC.

On October 12, 2004, NAR moved into its new, state-of-the-art, environmentally conscious Washington, D.C., headquarters. The new building was designed by Graham Gund Architects of Cambridge, MA, and developed by Lawrence N. Brandt Inc. of Washington, D.C. The structure, a 12-story, Class A, is located at 500 New Jersey Ave., NW, just three blocks from the U.S. Capitol.
