Cleaner Air for Nevada

Nevada’s air quality will be improved as a result of a $60 million settlement between the federal government and the Nevada Power Company. The settlement requires a reduction in the emissions of a harmful pollutant, nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the Clark Generating Station, a natural gas-fired power plant in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This reduction in NOx, by approximately 2,300 tons annually, resolves the claim by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that Nevada Power Company violated the New Source Review provisions of the Clean Air Act. These provisions specify what air pollution control devices must be used, what emission limits must be met, and how a facility must be operated. The settlement will require Nevada Power to install pollution controls at the Clark Station to reduce NOx. The reduction of 2,300 tons annually represents an 86% reduction from 2004-2005 levels.

In addition to the NOx reductions, Nevada Power will pay a $300,000 civil penalty and fund a $400,000 environmental mitigation project—the installation of solar arrays on the building of a non-profit organization in Las Vegas. Solar arrays are a collection of many photovoltaic cells allowing greater capacity for producing energy from the sun. Electricity generated by the sun can have energy and cost savings, and can even be sold back to local utilities for use elsewhere.

HOW TO WRITE A GREAT BLOG

I know how hard was for me to get on track with publishing posts on this site. It is quite intimidating specially when you see how many great posts are there. How do they came up with the subjects? How do they manage the content?... And is so vital to get your Blog up and running.

Here are some points I came up with:

  1. Tell readers your own opinion in the subject.
  2. Links, links, links…
  3. 250 Words is enough
  4. Headlines should be catching
  5. Write with passion and be short
  6. Include Bullet lists
  7. Edit your post
  8. Keywords, keywords, keywords
  9. Make sure to credit your sources

1. Tell readers your own opinion in the subject

First and foremost, decide what you want to write about. No one likes a post that goes absolutely nowhere - it’s annoying. Don’t be a sheep, stand out and voice your own opinion. Who cares if nobody agrees with you? As long as you believe in what you’re saying then don’t be afraid to disagree.

People want to know what other people think; crazy as it sounds they want to know what you think. Tell them exactly what you think using the least amount of words possible. People like that and appreciate openness.

Invoke an Emotional Response - This approach takes practice, and quite frankly, it takes emotion to pull it off well. To elicit an emotional response for a reader, you need to write with emotion - it’s a process of “transference“, not “creation“.

2.  Links, links, links…
Support your post with links to other web pages that are contextual to your post. It’s annoying to read about something and then have to Google it, instead of simply clicking a link to it.

250 words is enough
Give the maximum amount of information with the least amount of words. Time is finite and people are infinitely busy. There is too much content on this planet to be consumed - get to the point or you’ll lose attention immediately.

Headlines should be catching

Spend as much time on your headline as you do on your post…

  • Do not try to make the title "smart"
  • The title must be a "label" or summary of the content.
  • Headlines have to stand on their own.

Make sentences and headlines short and to the point. Short, catchy, tabloid-style titles grab potential readers attention and will ensure that your posts have a better chance of being read.

5. Write with passion and be short

Make your description interesting, at the point and, as much as you can, make it easy to read. Don’t be hard on yourself - write whatever pops into your head. Blog is actually like a message board, wherein you can post thoughts and opinions to be read by others. People like to know what to expect, once you have settled on a style for your audience stick to it.

6. Include bullet point lists
We all love lists, it structures the info in an easily digestible format.

7.  Edit your post   Quality is far more important that quantity here. You want to be sure that your original message comes across exactly the way you intended it. You also will want to cut out some of the fat - remember, editing is absolutely crucial, and is a step you cannot afford to skip.

8. Make sure to credit your sources: Don’t plagerise! Never use someone else’s content without crediting them. You can refer to them in your entry and offer your own opinion on the story rather than be a copycat.

What is the secret? If you can add some more to it just do it. The more we share our experiences the better.

Thanks to you all.

more content and substance!

As I reached my limit for the week I deleted the last post so that I can replace with this one.

 flamingo          My favorite picture  >>>GRACE<<<

Looking back to "my" posts in ActiveRain, I was little disappointed to see that not all are the way I would like them to be. I guess I was always rushing and posting thinks that found worth to bring up to the general attention in the community. But after reading other members posts I realized that mine are missing that personal touch and my own experience.

I am a little hesitant because I am not sure that I have enough experience to share my own ideas and also because I doubt my own writing skills... In other words not feeling confident to open up. After all I am very new in the real estate field and still have a lot to learn, before adventuring into exposing my knowledge's. I don't mind criticism, if constructive. I don't mind disagreeing, if passionate and relevant. I don't mind any of that at all. All I care about is SUBSTANCE and PROFESSIONALISM.

Out of outmost respect for this wonderful community of professionals whom the time and value is at the essence, I will do my best to bring here, at this forum... CONTENT, more content.

I found  very helpful to stay focused on the guideline below:

 ActiveRain Community Guidelines

  • Have fun with the site. Don't be afraid to dig in! There's a lot to do and learn here.
  • Let ActiveRain staff and other members know what you are thinking. Member feedback is essential to our continued growth and development
  • Get connected. At first ActiveRain may seem, both at the same time; so big that you could never be heard, and so small and cliquish that you will never be a part of it. Everyone experiences this phenomenon. Our suggestion is to start off slow; read blogs, then start commenting on posts that interest you, and once you feel ready, blog away!

My intention was to give bring up and make available to all the latest, revised and complete version -Effective January 1, 2007 - of Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice

For anyone interested to see the document go to: http://www.lasvegasrealtor.com/professionalstandards/... and download it . Good to have it handy!
