Memories of a white Christmas... forbidden dream! |
||
|
Every year, of my adult life, around Christmas I take a moment to reflect about the time in my past when growing up, in the old communist country, Christmas was something of a forbidden dream. The only think that could not be taken away from us was that it was indeed white and magic. The streets and trees were covered with a white blanket... it was quiet, peaceful and mysterious. There were no decoration, no lights, no Christmas trees... But it was a strange beauty and joy in the air. It was Christmas! |

At this time of the year my mother's extraordinary creativity and spirit of tradition would do miracles. Yes, we did not have the Christmas tree but she would bring in the house a big dry tree brunch. Painting it in silver and decorating it with lights and beautiful Christmas decorations. (the same ones every year) We made sure that the window curtains are closed so no one would find out about our secret... It was white and cold outside - on the streets of my town - but bright, worm and joy in our home... My mother's magic touch and great taste would make the tree look majestic and bright... It was her love and spirit glowing in the darkness of times. I don't remember having gifts under that tree. The times were strange and we did not have money, but it did not matter at all because I never felt more love, happiness and joy than in the Christmas days... in that old communist country. Yes, it was the best time of my life. It was Christmas! |

Add sound to your Blog or Post...
I was asked how I add the sound to my site. Here is the way!
Before I give you the code I have to start with first step.
- If you want to add the sound to your Blog:
Go to My Settings and to Blog Description: Copy and paste the code below. It is the Christmas Carol you hear when accessing my Blog... You can change with whatever you like. File myst be mid
<embed src="http://washingtonmo.com/christmas/midi/1037.mid"
width="140" height="40" autostart="true" loop="FALSE">
</embed>
- If you want to add soung to your Post:
1. Go to HTML Editing of your Blog. On the top of HTML page Copy and Paste the Code below:
<EMBED SRC=your_file.mid AUTOSTART=true WIDTH=144 HEIGHT=60 LOOP=1>
AUTOSTART=true means automatically play sound when document is loaded. This way, the sound will play as a background sound. You can also set the value to false. The sound will play when the "play" button is clicked.
LOOP=n This tells browser how many times to play sound. n could be an integer, true, or false. Setting LOOP=true, browser will continue playing your sound until the stop button on the console is clicked.
2. It's a good idea to give an alternative to people who using browsers that do not support the embedded sound.
<embed src="bgsound.mid" hidden="true" autostart="true" loop="1">
<noembed>Your browser doesn't support EMBED, but you can still listen to the background sound of this page by<a href="bgsound.mid"> clicking here.</a></noembed>
Browsers that do not support EMBED will display the link inside <noembed> tag.
Here is how to use <BGSOUND> tag:
<BGSOUND SRC=your_file.mid LOOP=1>
LOOP can be specified as any positive number, infinite, or -1 which equals infinite.

Protect images: Disabling to copy your images to their hard-drive.
Placing your images behind an invisible screen is one of the methods that can help to prevent users from downloading your pictures... Protect your intellectual Copyright by learning how to place a security screen in front of your web images to help prevent users from saving your images to their hard-drive.
- A simple way to position a transparent gif overtop of the image with no span tag
COPY AND PASTE THE CODE BELOW:
<img src="http://www.your website.com/images/clear.gif" alt="Protected Image" width=" " height=" " style="background-image:url('http://www.your website.com/images/your image name.jpg')">
Example: Click on the image here to see the code in action.
If you right-click and use your browser's 'Save Picture As' option to save the photograph to your hard-drive, you will find that you will save the photograph "as is" but upon downloading in your computer, the image is an empty file.
An Empty File?
'Empty File' is a little misleading and although it is a valid image file it will certainly appear to be an empty file if you try to display it on a web page. It is in fact a transparent, single-pixel GIF file which means that it only has one pixel which you can't see anyway because it is transparent. The fact that it only contains one pixel explains why you can have a valid image.
Enjoy!!!
A picture is worth 1000 words...
It takes a lot more than sparkling windows, scented candles and chocolate-chip cookies to sell a home in today's market.
A picture is worth 1000 words.
These days, a property's "pix appeal," or attractiveness in photos posted in online listings, is equally important. Eighty percent of home buyers used the Internet last year to search for a home, and nearly 25% reported that the Internet is where they first found the property they purchased, according to a National Association of Realtors survey.
When it comes to taking shoots of the property take the time to find and select areas that have most flattering qualities.
- For exterior shots, shoot in the middle of the day when the sun is shining and the sky is blue
- For interior shots, turn on all the lights and use a flash.
- Take as many pictures as you can. Choose the right angles and flattering area of the property... For condos and apartments, include shots of amenities such as a pool, tennis court or gym, etc. Quality counts when taking photos, and cell-phone cameras don't cut it. A camera with a wide-angle lens is ideal, but "point and shoot" digital cameras also can do the job.
- Set the camera on its highest resolution you can always decrease the resolution by editing later.
- Edit your pictures. Improve a shot using basic photo-editing software. Crop out ceilings or unnecessary background, and adjust the brightness or contrast.
In few words put all your efforts in presentation, make the images to show the best... see the property through the buyier's eye. Make him fall in love with it.
Few example of pictures ilustrating what a bad picture can do to your presentation... And I've seen many like those!
